1/29/24 Quick RI Trout Session

Updated: Jan 30, 2024

Spent a couple hours fishing Silver Spring Pond for trout. The state stocked this pond a week or 2 ago, and I figured it was worth a shot as I was passing through the area. Half the pond had a thin, old sheet of ice on it, while the other half was open. One guy in a boat was out, and reported catching 2 Browns, a Rainbow and a handful of pickerel. Ok, good news, gave me some confidence to stick it out a little while. First 10 minutes I caught a small pickerel on a 3" Kietech on an 8th oz Jighead. 10 minutes after that, another bite, this time a Rainbow about 15" on the same lure. Based on my stocked trout efforts this season, one fish in the first 20 minutes is better than most days Ive fished. I had stopped and fished through the ice here the week prior and spent 45 minutes jigging without a sniff.
